One of the most common causes of Illinois motorcycle accidents occurs when a vehicle attempts to make a left-hand turn immediately in the path of an oncoming motorcycle. Many times, this happens as the vehicle’s driver “fails to see” the oncoming motorcycle. Such frontal “head-on” collisions have led to numerous serious motorcycle accidents, with many being fatal to the motorcyclist. Severe head trauma is a frequent injury seen in these accidents.
A recent Illinois wrongful death lawsuit has been filed in St. Clair County Court concerning a fatal motorcycle accident that happened on June 4, 2015 in St. Clair County. The accident involved a vehicle, owned by Charter Communications and driven by one of its employees, that attempted to make a left-hand turn immediately in front of a motorcycle. A collision ensued. The motorcyclist, George Smith, was hospitalized for treatment of his accident injures, but he died a few days later.
The lawsuit claims that the driver of the vehicle that hit the motorcycle received traffic citations concerning the accident, including those for failing to yield and to signal.
The accident and wrongful death lawsuit is discussed in the Madison Record article of July 15, 2015, titled “Widow alleges wrongful death in husband’s fatal motorcycle collision.” An excerpt:
The lawsuit alleges the defendant was negligent in failing to keep a careful lookout, control his vehicle, signal, and yield the right of way. The plaintiff also faults Charter, alleging failure to properly hire, train and supervise employees. She also alleges family expenses.
Additional details and possible updates can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Madison Record article mentioned above.
