There was a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday (May 6, 2018) morning near Woodstock. The crash apparently involved a motorcycle loss of control.
According to information provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at 11:03 a.m. as a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Kishwaukee Valley Road, just west of Vermont Road. At that time, the motorcycle ran off the curved roadway and first went into a ditch, then over Vermont Road.
The motorcyclist, identified as Donald E. Hansen, 72, of Woodstock, was ejected from the motorcycle. He was severely injured during the crash and was taken to Centegra Medical Center in Woodstock, where he was pronounced dead.

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The motorcycle had no mechanical issues, police said. The investigation revealed that the “motorcycle operational abilities were believed to have contributed to the crash,” according to a news release.
A subsequent autopsy revealed that Hansen died from from blunt force trauma to the head.
The accident investigation is being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
