A Wood River motorcycle accident resulted in fatal accident injuries to the motorcyclist. The collision, which involved a car and a motorcycle, happened Friday (April 12, 2019) night. Wood River Police say the collision occurred at around 8:30 p.m. at Madison Avenue and Second Street.
Like many fatal Illinois motorcycle accidents, this Wood River motorcycle accident allegedly involved a car that was attempting to make a left-hand turn in front of an oncoming motorcycle. Prior accidents of this have in many cases been caused by the motorist “not seeing” the motorcycle, and failing to yield to it, before making the left-hand turn. Should a collision occur in this situation, the accident injuries sustained by the motorcycle rider (and if applicable, passenger) are usually serious in nature, and often life-threatening.
The Madison County coroner identified the motorcyclist as William Morales, 28, of Wood River. The coroner indicated that Morales died from blunt force trauma to the torso.
An excerpt regarding this Wood River motorcycle accident, from the April 14, 2019 stltoday.com article titled “Man killed in motorcycle accident in Wood River“:
Chief of Police Brad Wells said that the accident happened when the driver of the car, eastbound on Madison, made a left onto Second Street in front of the motorcycle, headed west, Wells said. No tickets have been issued; the incident is still being investigated, he said.
Morales was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.
The occupants of the car were not injured.
This Wood River motorcycle accident remains under investigation. The accident investigation is being conducted by the Wood River Police Department, the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Division, and the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
