As discussed on the “Early-Season Motorcycle Riding Safety Issues” page, for many reasons riding a motorcycle early in the motorcycle riding season can present a heightened level in the risk of being involved in a crash.
One risk is that of motorists “not seeing” motorcycles, which can be particularly acute early in the riding season. Motorists “not seeing” motorcycles can further be exacerbated if the motorist is impaired either by alcohol and/or drug use.
As seen in many Illinois motorcycle accidents – many summarized on this site – motorists “not seeing” motorcycles has led to many collisions that have resulted in serious injuries and fatalities to motorcycle riders. In many cases these collisions involve motorists making left-hand turns immediately in front of an oncoming motorcycle.
Tips to avoid motorcycle accidents – including reducing the possibility of not being “seen” by other drivers – is discussed on the “Ways To Avoid Motorcycle Accidents And Injuries” page.
