The crash, which took place around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, occurred when a 44-foot freightliner semi-truck attempted to change lanes and hit a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle, according to the Waukegan Police Department.
A preliminary investigation by the Waukegan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit indicates that both the motorcycle and the fifth-wheel semi-truck were northbound in the 2200 block of North Lewis Avenue at the time of the crash, according to a news release.
The motorcycle had been in the lane closest to the curb and the semi-truck had been in the lane immediately to the left, the release said.
The motorcyclist, subsequently identified as a 58-year-old man from Beach Park, died at the accident scene. At the time of the accident the motorcyclist was not wearing a motorcycle helmet.

As seen in many Illinois motorcycle accidents summarized on this site, many have involved motorists who “don’t see” motorcyclists. This failure to see motorcycles often leads to serious motorcycle accidents, many of which led to motorcyclist fatalities.
In incidents in which the motorcyclist is injured or killed due to the negligence of a motorist, a personal injury lawsuit or wrongful death lawsuit is often filed. There are various reasons as to why such a lawsuit would be filed. These reasons are further discussed on the “Reasons For Filing A Motorcycle Accident Injury Lawsuit” page.
