An investigation indicated that a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling west on Pleasant Valley Road, when for unknown reasons it exited the road to the north where it struck a utility pole, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver, who was the sole rider of the motorcycle, was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead on scene.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the sheriff’s office said.

There are many reasons as to why a motorcyclist might lose control of the motorcycle. These types of loss of control accidents remain a leading cause of Illinois motorcycle crashes.

Loss of motorcycle control is further discussed on the “Motorcycle Loss Of Control Accidents” page. As seen on that page, due to the inherent balance and stability required for safe riding, a wide range of factors can cause a rider to lose control. These reasons range from riding a motorcycle while drunk to faulty motorcycle components that fail and cause a wreck. Also, motorcyclists are very vulnerable to road hazards, which are often unexpected and can suddenly appear, leaving little reaction time.
