There was a Southern Illinois motorcycle crash early Monday (June 11, 2018) morning in Williamson County. Like many Illinois motorcycle crashes so far in 2018 – many of which have been discussed on this site – this motorcycle accident appears to involve a loss of motorcycle control.
According to the Illinois State Police, this Southern Illinois motorcycle crash happened as a motorcycle with passenger was exiting Interstate 24 onto I-57 at 12:15 a.m. At that time, the motorcyclist lost control of the motorcycle (a 2006 Harley-Davidson) and the motorcycle left the roadway and crashed. Both the motorcyclist and passenger were ejected from the bike.
The motorcyclist, identified as John R. Norton, 49, of Terre Haute, Indiana, was seriously injured and flown to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of his accident injuries.
The passenger was identified as Nichole L. Shaughnessy, 41 of Mt. Vernon. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her accident injuries, which were considered to be serious injuries.
