A common cause of single-vehicle motorcycle wrecks that involve the motorcycle crashing into a fixed object or the motorcyclist being ejected from the bike is loss of motorcycle control. As discussed on the “Motorcycle Loss Of Control Accidents” page, there can be many reasons as to why a motorcyclist loses control of the bike. While some of these reasons, such as rider error, are the fault of the motorcycle rider, other reasons are beyond the rider’s control. Among these issues that may be outside the rider’s control are sudden, unexpected road hazards, such as road debris that when hit by a motorcycle can cause instability that leads to a crash.
Motorcycle loss of control remains a leading cause of Illinois motorcycle crashes that cause injury, including those that lead to the death of the motorcyclist. Accident injuries are often serious in nature, i.e. those that lead to (extensive) hospitalization and, for those that are non-fatal in nature, possible temporary and permanent impairments.
