Portage Park Motorcycle Accident Results In Fatality

There was a Portage Park motorcycle accident Thursday (August 8, 2019) that resulted in the death of the motorcyclist. This Portage Park motorcycle accident happened along North Cicero Avenue, and is described as the motorcycle “t-boning” a minivan.

The accident is discussed in a variety of media sources including the August 8, 2019 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “Motorcyclist dies after crashing into minivan in Portage Park.” An excerpt:

Felix Ocasio, 47, was riding a motorcycle southbound in the 3800 block of North Cicero Avenue when a minivan attempted to cross westbound from Bernice Avenue through stopped traffic, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Ocasio collided with the side of the minivan about 9:14 a.m. and fell into the street, authorities said. He was wearing a helmet.

Ocasio was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of his accident injuries. He was later pronounced dead. A subsequent autopsy indicated that he died from multiple injuries resulting from the motorcycle accident.

The driver of the minivan, identified as a 68-year-old woman and a 3-year-old backseat passenger were not injured during this Portage Park motorcycle accident.

The driver was issued a ticket for failing to keep in the lane.

Additional details and possible updates concerning this Portage Park motorcycle-minivan collision can be seen in the article mentioned above, as well as the August 8, 2019 Chicago Tribune article titled “Man dies when motorcycle crashes into minivan on Northwest Side.”

Collisions such as the Portage Park motorcycle accident discussed above can have many causes. Distracted driving often results in such collisions. However, there can be other reasons, such as a motorist “not seeing” the traveling motorcycle. Yet another reason may be an error in the motorist’s driving. The motorist may not realize that the motorcycle is closer than it originally appears.

When a riders dies due to the negligence of a motorist, relevant parties may be able to successfully file a wrongful death lawsuit. Such lawsuits are further discussed on the “Motorcycle Accident Wrongful Death Lawsuits” page.
