Loss of motorcycle control can occur for many different reasons. The issue of motorcycle loss of control remains of primary importance, as many serious Illinois motorcycle crashes – including those that result in fatalities – are due to a rider losing control of the bike.

One way to reduce the possibility of losing control of a bike while riding is to make sure that there are no noticeable maintenance issues. There are many motorcycle components that should be checked and serviced if necessary. One key component is motorcycle tires. Inspecting for tire wear, tire inflation, and any defects (such as bulges) and excessive wear is very important.

The subject of motorcycle maintenance and its importance to safe riding is further discussed on the “Illinois Motorcycle Maintenance” page. A motorcycle maintenance checklist is cited on that page. As well, potentially hazardous situations are mentioned.
