A woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle died following an accident Saturday (July 2, 2016) in Elgin. The accident happened on Route 20. Elgin Police first began going to the accident scene at 11:44 a.m.
An excerpt from the July 2, 2016 Daily Herald article titled “Woman, 54, dies in motorcycle crash on Route 20 in Elgin“:
The victim was riding on the back of the 2006 Harley Davidson late Saturday morning when its driver, a 56-year-old man, swerved to avoid a car attempting a turn from Highland Woods Boulevard onto Route 20. As the motorcyclist attempted to avoid the vehicle, he lost control, according to Elgin police.
At the time of the accident, the motorcycle was heading westbound on Route 20. The car (a 2006 Honda Accord) was being driven by an 18-year-old woman from Addison. She was attempting to turn onto eastbound Route 20.
The motorcyclist and passenger were taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital for treatment of their accident injuries. Whereas the man had injuries considered to be non-life-threatening in nature, the woman was later pronounced dead.
The area around the accident scene was closed for several hours as a crash reconstruction was performed.
