Motorcyclist Struck And Killed In Pekin, Illinois

On Thursday, July 21, a motorcyclist was struck and killed by a motorist in Pekin, Illinois.

Allegedly, an elderly woman ran a red light at the intersection of Margaret and 2nd Street and struck the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist has been identified as William L. Wiker, Jr., 56, of Pekin.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, an unidentified woman, was taken to Pekin Hospital but did not appear to have major injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

Motorcycle Safety – Highland Park Illinois

In the July 15 2011 edition of “The Highlander,” (pdf) the monthly publication of the City of Highland Park, there is a section on page 5 titled “Motorists Cautioned to Drive Safely With Motorcyclists.”

The section is three paragraphs long and contains a variety of information with regard to motorcycle and motor scooter safety.

A notable excerpt includes:

The most common causes of motorcycle crashes occur when: a vehicle turns left in front of a motorcycle that has the right-of-way; a vehicle rear-ends a slowing or stopping motorcycle; a vehicle changes lanes and strikes a motorcycle; and a motorcycle exceeds the speed limit or drives too fast for conditions.

The section also suggests a variety of safety recommendations.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident On West Lake Street In Chicago

A man was killed on his motorcycle this morning in the 3600 block of West Lake Street in Chicago.

Details regarding the accident are not extensive.  According to a July 21 Chicago Tribune story on the accident, titled “Motorcyclist crashes into ‘L’ support beam, dies“, Tarzan Lynch, of Chicago’s West Side, was killed when his motorcycle collided with a metal support column part of the CTA tracks.

According to the story:

Police said that Lynch was changing lanes at about 10 a.m. Wednesday in the 3600 block of West Lake Street when he collided with support beam underneath the Conservatory-Central Park Drive stop on the CTA’s Green Line.

According to the medical examiner’s office, Lynch was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Motorcyclist Killed In Dolton Illinois

A resident of Dolton, Ernestine Temple, was killed Saturday night while riding a motorcycle in Dolton, Illinois.  Now, a Chicago man has been charged in connection with the accident.

According to a release from the Dolton Police Department, William Miller, 41, of Chicago was charged with aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide.

Miller was driving westbound on Sibley Boulevard in a Ford SUV at approximately 7:41 p.m. Saturday night when he attempted to turn left onto Evers Street.  In doing so he failing to yield to a motorcycle driven by Temple, 37, of Dolton.  Temple was struck and killed.

After the accident, Miller pulled over his SUV and tried to remove the license plates from the vehicle and flee on foot.  However, bystanders caught him and detained him until police arrived.

According to Dolton Police, Miller’s blood alcohol level at the time was three times the legal limit of .08.  He also had two active warrants for driving without a license.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident On Chicago’s Dan Ryan Expressway

Fred Dech, 51, has died this morning after losing control of his motorcycle on the southbound lanes of Chicago’s Dan Ryan Expressway.  According to Illinois State Police, the accident happened at approximately 9:23 a.m., at 51st Street.

The accident occurred when Dech hit the car in front of him and lost control of his bike.
