There have been a variety of recent accidents in which one vehicle crosses the center line and collides with an oncoming vehicle. As seen on this site, some of these Illinois accidents have included motorcycles being hit in these “head-on” collisions.
As is often the case in such “head-on” collisions, the injuries sustained during such crashes are often life-threatening, and in many cases lead to the death of the motorcyclist and, if applicable, passenger.
A fatal accident in Scott County, Iowa on Sunday, September 11, 2016, involves such an accident in which a SUV crossed the center line and struck two motorcycles.
An excerpt from the September 12, 2016 qctimes.com article titled “LeClaire SUV-motorcycle crash victims identified“:
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, a red Ford Explorer, driven by Darryl Wilson, 52, of Silvis, was traveling north in the 3100 block of South Cody Road, or U.S. 67, in LeClaire when it crossed the center line into the path of the southbound traffic.
The vehicle struck a motorcycle head-on, and the motorcycle became lodged in the front of the Explorer. The Explorer then struck another motorcycle that was traveling behind the first motorcycle. The second motorcycle struck a third motorcycle, which was following the first two. At some point, the Explorer and the first motorcycle became engulfed in flames.
The motorcyclists on the first two motorcycles were killed during the accident. They were identified by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office as William Bruce Griffith, 57, of Davenport and Ronald Gene Fox, 59, of Blue Grass.
The third motorcyclist also injured. He was treated at the accident scene.
Darryl Wilson was also injured. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of accident injuries that were considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.
None of the motorcyclists were wearing motorcycle helmets at the time of the crash.
Additional details and possible updates can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the qctimes .com article mentioned above, as well as the September 12 kwqc.com article titled “2 motorcyclists killed in 4-vehicle LeClaire crash.”
