Motorcyclist Killed During Route 59 Accident In Plainfield Illinois

A motorcyclist from Naperville, Illinois was killed Saturday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. in Plainfield, Illinois.

The motorcyclist, George Weikum, 58, was traveling northbound on Route 59 on his Harley, just north of Joseph Street, when he was struck by a pickup truck traveling south that crossed a median and rolled over into oncoming traffic, according to Plainfield police.  Weikum was pronounced dead on the scene.

The man driving the pickup truck, David C. Dietrich, 32, of Shorewood, was transported to Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.  It is unknown as to what caused him to lose control of his pickup truck.

Route 59 was closed for hours between 135th Street and 143rd Street as police reconstructed the accident.
