There was a motorcycle accident Saturday morning (July 4, 2015) in Sandwich, Illinois.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at 1:47 a.m., as two motorcyclists were riding westbound on Creek Road.
At that time, the driver of a Ford Expedition, traveling eastbound on Creek Road, near Somonauk Road, was approaching the motorcyclists and swerving in the roadway.
The two motorcyclists attempting to “lay down” their bikes to avoid a collision. While one motorcyclist was successful in avoiding a collision, the other motorcyclist was struck and run over.
The driver of the SUV left the accident scene.
The motorcyclist who was struck was identified as Douglas B. Koehler, 32, of Naperville. He was taken to Valley West Hospital in Sandwich, but later flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. His injuries were described as “critical injuries” and are reported to include a broken pelvis.
The driver of the Expedition was identified as David A. Brown, 40, of Sandwich.

Police say Brown left the scene. But he was later found at a nearby residence on Creek Road. After conducting an investigation, Brown was arrested and charged with aggravated DUI, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, reckless driving, driving while license revoked, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle, and failure to report an accident to police authority. He’s still in the DeKalb County Jail. His bond has not been set yet.
