Motorcyclist Dies Following I-55 Crash In Sangamon County

There was a motorcycle accident Labor Day (September 5, 2016) after which the motorcyclist died from his accident injuries.

According to the Sangamon County Coroner, the motorcycle accident happened on northbound Interstate 55 (I-55) near milepost 88.  At 11:26 a.m., the motorcycle (with passenger) experienced a mechanical problem in the form of a flat rear tire.  As the motorcyclist attempted to slow, the motorcycle overturned on its side.  [As many motorcyclists and bicyclists are aware, a rapidly deflating tire can cause serious handling difficulties and instability that can lead to a motorcycle loss of control.]

The motorcyclist, identified as Joe Bravo, 57, of Fort Lupton, Colorado, was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The motorcycle passenger was identified as Leslie Bravo, 58. She was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of her accident injuries, where she was listed in stable condition.

This fatal Illinois motorcycle accident is under investigation by the Illinois State Police (ISP.)
