Motorcyclist Dies Following Collision On Chicago’s South Side

There was a fatal motorcycle accident Sunday night (August 14, 2016) in Chicago’s Brainerd neighborhood, which is on Chicago’s South Side.

According to Chicago Police, the accident happened at 9:42 p.m., as a motorcyclist was traveling westbound in the 1200 block of West 95th Street.  At that time, the motorcycle collided with a vehicle that was traveling eastbound and was making a left-hand turn.

The motorcyclist was identified as Britton A. Hopps, 26, of Chicago.  He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment of his accident injuries, where, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, he later died.

An excerpt from the August 15, 2016 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “Motorcyclist killed in crash in Brainerd“:

Witnesses told investigators the motorcycle was speeding, and the man may have been looking at his cell phone at the time of the crash, police said.

The driver of the vehicle was identified only as a 28-year-old woman.  She suffered injuries that were considered to be “minor” in nature and was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park for treatment of her accident injuries.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times article mentioned above, she was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle and for driving with a suspended driver’s license.

This fatal Chicago motorcycle crash is under investigation by the Chicago Police Major Accidents Investigation Unit.
