Motorcycle Crash Near Hebron Critically Injures Rider

A motorcycle crash near Hebron occurred on the evening of Tuesday, September 15, 2020. This motorcycle crash near Hebron resulted in the motorcyclist being critically injured.

An excerpt regarding the accident, from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office media September 16, 2020 release titled “Injury Crash Involving DUI Motorcyclist.” An excerpt:

On September 15, 2020, at 6:56 p.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District, and Mercyhealth MD-1 responded to a single vehicle motorcycle crash involving a 2018 Harley-Davidson which occurred on Johnson Road, north of Illinois Route 173.

The investigation revealed the Harley-Davidson had been traveling southbound on Johnson Road.  For unknown reasons it left the roadway to the west and crashed while reentering the roadway. 

The driver and sole rider of the Harley-Davidson, Jeff Koszuta, a 52-year-old Hawthorn Woods man, was ejected from the motorcycle and was flown by LifeNet Helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside where he was listed in critical condition.  Koszuta was not wearing a helmet.

The investigation also revealed Koszuta was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.   Koszuta was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

This motorcycle crash near Hebron remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
