Motorcycle And Pickup Truck Collide In Shawneetown, Illinois

There was a motorcycle accident Monday (July 7, 2014) in Shawneetown, Illinois.

This motorcycle accident happened at approximately 1:32 p.m. at the intersection of Lincoln Blvd. West and Illinois Route 13.

According to the Illinois State Police, based upon a preliminary investigation, the collision happened between a pickup truck and motorcycle (a “trike“) when the pickup truck, which was heading southbound on Lincoln Blvd. West, attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Illinois Route 13.  In doing so, the pickup truck went into the path of the motorcycle and a collision occurred.

The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle during the collision.

He was identified as Michael L. Benns, 59, of Benton, Illinois.  He was flown via helicopter to an Evansville hospital with “major injuries.”

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Danny L. Combs, 52, of Shawneetown.  He was not injured.

This accident remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
