McHenry County Fatal Motorcycle Crash Involving Loss Of Control

There was a McHenry County fatal motorcycle crash Wednesday (September 25, 2019) night. This McHenry County fatal motorcycle crash involved a loss of motorcycle control.

This crash is discussed in a variety of media sources, including the September 26, 2019 McHenry County Sheriff’s Office media release titled “Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Motorcycle Crash.”

An excerpt from the media release:

A 43-year-old Harvard man has died as a result of a single motorcycle crash that occurred in unincorporated Wonder Lake Wednesday evening.

At 7:39 p.m., on September 25, 2019, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Wonder Lake Fire Protection District personnel responded to the scene of a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Hancock Drive and East Lake Shore Drive in Wonder Lake.

Preliminary investigation indicated that a 2001 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Motorcycle was traveling westbound on Hancock Drive.  For unknown reasons the driver lost control of the motorcycle and it was driven off of the road onto the unpaved median at the intersection.  The driver of the motorcycle was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced deceased on scene.

At the time of the accident, the motorcyclist was not wearing a motorcycle helmet.

The motorcyclist was subsequently identified by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office as Jesse G. Rodriguez, 43, of Harvard.

This McHenry County fatal motorcycle crash remains under investigation. The accident investigation is being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

Motorcycle loss of control remains a foremost cause of serious and fatal Illinois motorcycle accidents. A loss of control crash also led to a fatality in Arlington Heights on September 16.

As discussed on the “Motorcycle Loss Of Control Accidents” page, there are many reasons as to why a rider may lose control of a bike. Often, an accident investigation needs to be conducted in order to determine the primary cause of the control loss.
