A Lake Zurich motorcycle crash has resulted in the death of a Des Plaines firefighter.
Details regarding this Lake Zurich motorcycle crash, which happened on Sunday (April 21, 2019) morning, appear somewhat limited at this time. The cause of the accident appears to be that another vehicle pulled out in front of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was identified as Paul Miller, a Des Plaines firefighter and paramedic, was critically injured in the collision.
An excerpt regarding this Lake Zurich motorcycle crash, from the April 23 Daily Herald article titled “Injured Des Plaines firefighter removed from life support“:
Hawthorn Woods police said officers responded to the crash at 10:07 a.m. Sunday in front of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School, 24500 N. Old McHenry Road. Police said Miller, 33, of McHenry, was unconscious when authorities arrived.
Miller was heading east on Old McHenry when a car driven by 77-year-old man from Englewood, Florida, turned left from the church lot and the collision occurred, according to police.
Police said Miller was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Both Miller and the car’s driver were taken to local hospitals for treatment of their accident injuries following the collision. Miller was later taken off of life support.
The accident investigation continues.

Motorists “not seeing” motorcycles continues to be a major traffic safety problem. As seen in fatal Illinois motorcycle accidents, many of which have been summarized on this site, this is a leading cause of collisions between motorcycles and other vehicles. These collisions, in which other drivers do “not see” motorcycles, often occur suddenly and can be very hard for the motorcyclist to predict and avoid.
