Loss of motorcycle control remains a leading reason for fatal Illinois motorcycle accidents. The “Motorcycle Loss Of Control Accidents” page discusses this type of accident and the reasons for why it can occur.
There are many reasons as to why a rider can lose control of the bike. Some of these reasons are within the control of the rider. For instance, a motorcyclist may take a turn too quickly and lose control of the bike, leading to an accident with injuries.
However, many loss of control crashes are due to events or incidents that the motorcyclist can’t anticipate or otherwise avoid. For instance, a deer may suddenly run into the path of a motorcycle. This event may lead to the rider swerving to avoid hitting the deer, thereby losing control of the bike and crashing. As well, there are many other types of road hazards that can suddenly present themselves to the rider. The motorcyclist may not have time to react to these sudden and unanticipated events. One example of a road hazard that may suddenly appear is if an item falls off of a vehicle in front of the motorcycle.
