According to information provided by the Illinois State Police (ISP) the crash happened shortly before 11:30, on I-57 near Wilmington Road. At that time, there was a blowout of the back tire of the motorcycle, after which the motorcyclist lost control and the bike went into the median ditch.
The motorcyclist, identified as Kerry Drake, 44, of Chicago, was taken to the hospital for treatment of his accident injuries. His injuries were considered to be serious in nature.
At the time of the crash Drake was said to be wearing a motorcycle helmet.
