The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Fox Lake Police Department responded around 5:10 p.m. Sunday to Route 134 and Oakside Avenue in Fox Lake for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fox Lake Police Chief Jimmy Lee told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the crash involved a single vehicle — a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The driver, a 74-year-old Round Lake Beach man, was driving the motorcycle eastbound on Route 134.
The motorcycle traveled onto the gravel shoulder and the driver attempted to drive back onto the roadway, Lee said, adding “[They] were enjoying a nice ride sightseeing” when the crash occurred.
The motorcycle left the roadway, into the ditch. The motorcyclist was critically injured.
The motorcyclist received first aid at the accident scene from bystanders. The motorcyclist was then taken to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry, where he was pronounced dead.
A passenger on the motorcycle sustained injuries considered to be minor injuries.
This Fox Lake motorcycle crash remains under investigation. The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) assisted the Fox Lake Police Department in the investigation.

Loss of motorcycle control continues to be a leading cause of motorcycle accidents. There can be many reasons why a rider loses control of the bike. Once a loss of control begins, it can be difficult to regain control and avoid a crash.
Motorcycle loss of control is further discussed on the “Motorcycle Loss Of Control Accidents” page.
