Fatal Wadsworth Motorcycle Collision

Warm weather in the Chicago area has led to a recent large increase in the number of motorcyclists who have been recently riding.  As discussed on the “Early-Season Motorcycle Riding Safety Issues” page, riding a motorcycle in Illinois both before and during the early motorcycle season can present various additional safety risks to the rider.

There was a fatal motorcycle collision Saturday evening (February 18, 2017) in Wadsworth.

According to preliminary crash investigation findings from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened on Route 41, north of Route 173, at approximately 8:00 p.m.  At that time, a southbound 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle “rear-ended” a 1985 Pontiac Fiero.

During the collision, the motorcyclist was ejected from the bike.  He was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

The motorcyclist was later identified as a Shawn Hoff, 42, of Waukegan.

At the time of the crash the motorcyclist was not wearing a motorcycle helmet.

The driver of the Fiero, identified as a 63-year-old man from Gurnee, was not injured during the crash.
