There was a fatal SUV-motorcycle crash near Patoka on Saturday morning (July 2, 2016) after which a motorcyclist died and the SUV’s driver was injured. The accident happened on U.S. 51.
According to preliminary reports from the Illinois State Police (ISP) the accident happened as two motorcycles were traveling northbound on U.S. 51. At approximately 7:00 a.m., a southbound SUV crossed into their lane, and struck one motorcycle nearly “head-on.”

The driver of an SUV has told State Police he fell asleep before colliding nearly head on with a motorcycle on U.S. 51 on the north edge of Patoka.
The deputy coroner says Feezel was apparently on his way to work. He was ticketed by state police for improper lane usage.
The motorcycle hit overturned and caught fire. The motorcyclist was identified as Kevin Koenegstein, 47, of Odin. He died from his accident injuries as he was being taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital. He died from multiple internal injuries.
The other motorcyclist, identified as wife Mary Koenegstein, struck wreckage in the roadway but she was not injured.
After the collision, the SUV veered off of the roadway and rolled over. The driver of the SUV was identified as Ryan Feezel, 20, of Brownstown.
The accident remains under investigation by the ISP and a traffic crash reconstruction has been performed.
