The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office has identified the motorcyclist who died after a crash Saturday afternoon and the driver of the other vehicle who passed away due to a medical issue.
Michael Germann, 50, the driver of the motorcycle, and Cecelia Drake, 76, were both pronounced dead at HSHS St. John’s Hospital following the 2:30 p.m. crash at 11th and Mason streets, a press release from the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office said.
Germann’s death is presumed to be from injuries sustained in the crash, and Drake’s death is consistent with natural causes and not from injuries sustained in the crash, the press release added.
According to Springfield Police, the fatal collision occurred as Germann was riding northbound on 11th Street. At the time of the collision, Drake was on Mason Street and was attempting to turn onto southbound 11th Street.
