There was a fatal motorcycle accident Sunday night (June 18, 2017) on Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood. The accident happened near Midway Airport.
According to Chicago Police, the accident happened in the 5000 block of West 55th Street at approximately 10:00 p.m. At that time, a motorcyclist riding a Ducati motorcycle eastbound “rear-ended” a GMC Acadia that was pulling out of a parking lot, heading east. During the collision, the motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the opposite lane of traffic. A Jeep Wrangler traveling westbound then ran over the man.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the accident scene. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the motorcyclist was identified as Matthew J. Bobak, 29, of Justice.
The traffic accident investigation is being conducted by the Chicago Police Major Accidents Investigation Unit.
