According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), the motorcycle accident happened at approximately 11:55 a.m. on Illinois 160 and Frey Road. The accident happened as the motorcyclist, riding a 2003 Harley-Davidson FLH series motorcycle northbound on Illinois 160, was behind a grain truck. The motorcyclist struck the back of the truck, although according to the truck driver the motorcyclist apparently lost control of the bike before doing so.
The motorcyclist was identified as John Kent Gelarden, 51, of Edwardsville. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland where he was pronounced dead at 12:21 p.m.
