According to information provided by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened at approximately 12:10 a.m. The accident scene was in the area of Fox River Road and Woodland Avenue in unincorporated Cary. The crash involved a single motorcycle (a 2004 Yamaha) that was traveling along Fox River Road.
An excerpt from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office press release of August 2, 2017, titled “Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Unincorporated Cary“:
Preliminary investigation shows the Yamaha, driven by a male of Cary, was traveling eastbound on Fox River Road in the area of Woodland Avenue. For an unknown reason, the driver of the motorcycle left the roadway and entered a ditch on the south side of Fox River Road. The motorcycle then struck a utility pole and the driver was ejected.
The motorcyclist was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with injuries considered to be life-threatening in injuries. The rider (subsequently identified as Clayton Ruth, 28, of Cary) later died.
The accident investigation is being conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
