There was a fatal motorcycle accident Sunday night (April 24, 2016) in McHenry County (Nunda Township.)
According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation indicates that the crash involved a motorcyclist traveling southbound on River Road at Black Partridge Road at approximately 11:33 p.m. At that time – for a currently undetermined reason – the motorcycle (a Harley Davidson XL883C) left the roadway to the west, and it collided with a guardrail.
The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle during the collision, and he was not wearing a helmet.
The motorcyclist was identified as Merrick M. Gehrke, 35, of McHenry. He died at the accident scene.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. Members of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District and A-TEC Ambulance also responded to the scene. The Island Lake Police Department assisted with traffic control.
