Fatal Motorcycle Collision In Springfield, Illinois

There was a fatal motorcycle accident early Saturday morning (May 6, 2017) in Springfield, Illinois.

According to preliminary accident investigation findings provided by the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened on North Dirksen Parkway at approximately 1:50 a.m.  The collision, which involved a motorcycle and another vehicle, happened when the vehicle turned from Linden Avenue in front of the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was identified as Justin Heath, 29, of Springfield.  He was killed in the accident.

A passenger on the motorcycle,  Samantha Clardy, was seriously injured.  She remains in intensive care in the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Doris D. Fisher, 46, of Springfield.

Doris D. Fisher, 46, of the 400 block of West Cook Street was arrested on suspicion of DUI after the accident on North Dirksen Parkway about 1:50 a.m. Saturday.



Fisher was under the influence of prescription medications at the time of the crash, the sheriff’s office said. She was also cited for driving without insurance and failing to yield at an intersection.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, at the time of the accident both Heath and Clardy were wearing motorcycle helmets.
