According to a press release from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at approximately 3:41 p.m. on Illinois 96 when a motorcyclist, who was heading south, attempted to pass two cars. Apparently he failed to see a grain truck that was turning east. The motorcyclist struck the front of the grain truck, causing the motorcyclist to lose control, run off the road, and travel into a ditch.
The motorcyclist, identified as Melvin E. Davis Jr., 51, of Keokuk, Iowa, was taken to Blessing Hospital where he later died from his accident injuries.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police, Lima-Tioga Fire Dept. Air Evac, Hancock County EMS and Adams County EMS all assisted at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
