There was a fatal motorcycle accident Thursday night (August 4, 2016) in Batavia.
The accident involved a collision between a motorcycle and another vehicle at the intersection of Randall Road and Main Street, as shown below:
The collision happened at approximately 8:20 p.m.
An excerpt from the Kane County Chronicle article of August 5, 2016, titled “Batavia police: Oswego motorcyclist dies in Randall Road crash,” referring to Batavia Police Detective Kevin Bretz:
He said a 2009 Pontiac Vibe, driven by a 16-year-old female from North Aurora, was southbound on Randall Road preparing to turn onto eastbound Main Street, while a 1994 Kawasaki Ninja, driven by the Oswego man, was northbound on the inside lane of Randall Road approaching Main Street. Both had a green light, Bretz said, noting that preliminary information indicates the Pontiac began its left turn onto Main Street and the vehicles collided.
The motorcyclist, later identified as Justin Retherford-Speer, 20, of Oswego, was declared dead after being taken to Delnor Community Hospital for treatment of his accident injuries.
Two occupants of the Pontiac Vibe were not injured.
As described in the August 19, 2016 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “Girl, 15, cited for Batavia crash that that killed motorcyclist,” the girl that was driving the Pontiac Vibe was later cited for failure to yield turning left. At the time of the accident the girl had a learner’s permit.
This fatal Illinois motorcycle accident remains under investigation by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and Batavia Police.
