There was an Illinois fatal motorcycle accident Sunday (July 6, 2014) on Interstate 55 (I-55) near Springfield.
According to the Illinois State Police, this motorcycle accident happened on I-55 just north of the Stevenson Drive exit at approximately 2:30 p.m. Traffic had slowed due to a previous accident.
At that time the motorcyclist lost control of the motorcycle and slid onto the left shoulder.
The motorcyclist, said to be a 48-year-old man from Normal, died at the accident scene. His passenger, a 35-year-old woman from Colfax, was taken to Memorial Medical Center where she later died.
