Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Wilmette

There was a fatal motorcycle accident Saturday (September 19, 2015) in Wilmette.

The accident happened shortly after noon, as two motorcyclists were traveling on Sheridan Road.  Near the  south entrance to Gillson Park, a Jeep, driven by James S. Graves, 79, of Wilmette, made a left-hand turn in front of the motorcyclists.  In doing so, he collided with one of the motorcyclists.  The other motorcyclist was able to stop previous to colliding with the Jeep.  According to police, Graves failed to yield the right-of-way when he made the left-hand turn in front of the motorcyclists.

The motorcyclist who was struck was identified as Paul Choi, 42, from Morton Grove.  He was taken in critical condition to Evanston Hospital for treatment of his accident injuries.  According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, he died at 2:43 p.m.

A 78-year-old female passenger in the Jeep was also injured and taken to Evanston Hospital.

The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Wilmette Police Department with the assistance of the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT), a component of North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF). At this time, there is no indication of alcohol or drugs being a factor in the collision and charges are pending further investigation.
