Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Southern Illinois

A motorcycle accident in Southern Illinois has left one man dead and seriously injured a woman passenger.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Randy T. Pate, 28, of Wood River, and the passenger as Cynthia J. King, 36, of Granite City.

According to The Illinois State Police, the accident happened on Sunday night at approximately 6:30 p.m., as Pate was riding southbound on Illinois Route 100 (Great River Road) near Chautaugua Road.  He came up fast behind a woman driving a car in the left  hand lane.  The woman began to change lanes, to get out of the way of the motorcycle.  However, the motorcycle also moved to the right lane, and hit the back of the car.  During the collision, Pate and King were thrown from the motorcycle.

Pate died at the accident scene.  King was airlifted to St. John’s Mercy Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the car was uninjured.
