A fatal motorcycle accident happened on Sunday afternoon in Sangamon County, Illinois, near Dawson.
The accident happened at 3:27 p.m. The motorcyclist, Thomas Blane Harley, 33, of Illiopolis, was heading west when he collided with a pickup truck on U.S. 36 at Constant Street. The accident occurred as the pickup truck crossed the highway into the motorcycle’s path.
The motorcycle struck the pickup truck’s front right fender; Harley was then thrown from the motorcycle.
Harley was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.
The driver of the pickup, a 19-year-old yet-unidentified male, was cited for disobeying a traffic control device; failing to wear a seatbelt; and not having a driver’s license. The driver said he did not see the motorcycle after looking both ways.
The Illinois State Police and the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office are investigating the accident.
