A blog post of September 16 titled “Motorcycle Accidents Caused By Debris On Roadway” previously discussed hazards faced by motorcyclists due to items or debris on roadways.
A fatal motorcycle accident in California is yet another example of this type of hazard. An excerpt from an October 19 story from the Morgan Hill Times titled “Two ladders cause fatal accident on US 101” :
Hoc Nguyen, 28, of San Jose was riding his 2009 Yamaha motorcycle on U.S. 101 south of Metcalf Road last Thursday about 70 mph when he ran over a set of ladders that were blocking two lanes.
Meanwhile, a 63-year-old man from Gilroy in a 2000 Honda traveling slightly behind the motorcycle struck Nguyen after he was ejected from his motorcycle. Nguyen suffered fatal injuries.
After the accident, Nguyen was removed from the traffic lanes to the right shoulder where CPR was performed by a witness. San Jose police arrived and assumed CPR without success. He was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m. Oct. 13. The driver from Gilroy was not arrested and did not suffer any injuries.
