There was a bicycle accident Monday (June 30, 2014) in Evanston, Illinois involving a collision between a bicyclist and motorcyclist.
According to Evanston Police, this bicycle accident happened at approximately 9:00 a.m., in the 600 block of Church Street. A bicyclist was traveling eastbound in the designated bike lanes, and then crossed the street in mid-block. As she did so, she was struck by a motorcyclist who was also traveling eastbound.
The bicyclist was identified as Gigi Galich, 55, of Evanston. She was taken to Evanston Hospital with injuries considered serious, including a head injury. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, she was pronounced dead at 4:13 p.m. on Tuesday.
At the time of the accident, she was wearing a bicycling helmet.
The motorcyclist, identified only as a 27-year-old Chicagoan, was not injured in the collision.
