There was a fatal motorcycle accident Friday night (September 8, 2017) in Bridgeview. This accident involved a collision between a motorcycle and car, and appears to have involved a common cause of Illinois motorcycle accidents – a car turning left into the path of an oncoming motorcycle. The crash happened near the Southfield Shopping Plaza at Harlem and 88th Street.
An excerpt regarding the crash, as seen in the September 9, 2017 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “Man dies of injuries in Bridgeview motorcycle crash“:
Officers responded at 8:13 p.m. to a fatal crash in the 8800 block of Harlem Avenue, according to Bridgeview police spokesman Roy Hanania. Upon arrival, they learned that a Hyundai Santa Fe traveling south on Harlem was turning left into the parking lot of the Southfield Plaza, 8715 Harlem Ave., when it collided with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven north.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the motorcyclist was identified as Milton Winters, 32, of Palos Hills. He was pronounced dead at 8:51 p.m., having died of multiple accident injuries stemming from the collision.
Another excerpt from the Sun-Times article:
The Santa Fe’s 62-year-old driver, a Chicago Ridge woman, told officers that she didn’t see the motorcycle when she made the left turn into the parking lot, police said.
The driver of the Santa Fe was cited for failure to yield while making a left-hand turn.
