There are many reasons as to why riding early in the motorcycle riding season presents additional motorcycle riding safety issues. Many of these reasons are discussed on the “Early-Season Motorcycle Riding Safety Issues” page. Among these reasons is that riders may be somewhat unfamiliar with riding the bike, as (typically) there are a number of months during which motorcycles are not ridden in Chicago. An excerpt from the aforementioned page:
For the first ride of the season, motorcyclists may want to be extra careful, as they have likely not ridden for a while and as such they may be somewhat “rusty” with regard to bike handling as well as the dynamics of riding in traffic.
