There was a fatal motorcycle accident Sunday night (September 10, 2017) in Wood River. As seen in many fatal Illinois motorcycle accidents, this accident appears to have involved a vehicle (in this case a minivan) turning left in front of an oncoming motorcycle.
According to police, the accident happened as a Kawasaki motorcycle (with passenger) was traveling westbound on Illinois 111. The motorcycle was struck by a minivan (a Ford Winstar) that was traveling eastbound on Illinois 111 that was attempting to turn left left onto Charles Avenue.
The motorcyclist, identified as Bradley C. Wallace, 18, of South Roxana, was declared dead at Alton Memorial Hospital. The passenger, Jonathan J. Marshal, 18, of Godfrey, was flown to a hospital in the St. Louis area, where he later died.
The driver of the 2003 Ford Windstar was identified as Robert Heaton, 81, from Wood River.

Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn, who performed the autopsy, said Wallace died as a result of head and chest trauma.
The accident investigation is being conducted by the Wood River Police Department and the Metro East Crash Assistance Team.
