The man was heading east on the motorcycle on Diversey Avenue near Lavergne Avenue about 9:40 p.m. when a black SUV heading the same direction rear-ended him, ejecting him and sending him into a pole, police said in a news release. The driver of the SUV didn’t stop, fleeing from the accident scene in the 4900 block of West Diversey and continuing east on Diversey, according to police.
The motorcyclist, a 36-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
This fatal Belmont Cragin motorcycle crash is under investigation by the Chicago Police Major Accidents Investigation Unit.
