Sangamon County Fatal Accident Involving Motorcycle Hitting A Deer

There was a fatal motorcycle accident involving a motorcycle hitting a deer Monday (May 28, 2018) night on I-72 near Buffalo, Illinois.  The collision happened near mile marker 112.

Kenneth Simpson, 66, of Nebraska, was pronounced dead at HSHS St. John’s ER at 9:38 p.m. Simpson was the driver of a motorcycle that was westbound on I-72 near Buffalo involved in a cash due to a deer running out into the highway.

Preliminary results from the autopsy indicate that Simpson died from blunt force injuries due to the collision.

The Illinois State Police is conducting the accident investigation.

Fatal Crash Involving Motorcycle With A Passenger In North Barrington

There was a fatal motorcycle crash Monday (May 28, 2018) morning in North Barrington involving a motorcycle with a passenger.  According to preliminary accident investigation findings, the crash involved a loss of motorcycle control.

According to information provided by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, in a May 29, 2018 media release titled “Fatal North Barrington Motorcycle Crash,” deputies began to respond to the accident scene, which was in the area of Miller Road and Oak Hill Road, at 11:57 a.m.

An excerpt from the media release:

Preliminary investigation shows a 2008 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, driven by a 62 year-old male of Mount Prospect, was traveling westbound on Miller Road.  Upon approaching a curve in the roadway, just east of Oak Hill Road, the driver lost control and struck the curb.  Both the driver and his 62 year-old female passenger of Mount Prospect, were ejected from the motorcycle.  Both the driver and passenger were wearing helmets.

The passenger, later identified as Debbie Platz, 62, of Mount Prospect, was critically injured and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.  She later died.

The motorcyclist, her husband, was also taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was treated for accident injuries and released.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.  The accident investigation is being conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.

Loss Of Control Of The Motorcycle Causes Genoa Fatal Crash

There was a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday (May 27, 2018) in Genoa.  The accident is being attributed to a loss of control of the motorcycle.

According to police, the crash happened on Route 72.

An excerpt regarding the crash, from the Daily Chronicle article of May 27, 2018 titled “Genoa man dies after crashing motorcycle, police say“:

Neil T. Tomsheck, of the 15600 block of state Route 72 – less than two miles from the site of the crash – was eastbound on his 1983 Honda Goldwing about 300 feet east of the intersection with Wilshire Drive about 6:44 a.m. when he lost control of the motorcycle, entered the south ditch and was ejected from the bike. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the release.

Tomsheck was pronounced dead at the accident scene.  At the time of the accident he was not wearing a helmet.

The cause of the loss of control does not appear to be publicly available at this time.

The accident investigation is being conducted by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office.

Hit-And-Run SUV-Motorcycle Collision In Grand Crossing

There was a motorcycle accident early Sunday (May 27, 2018) morning on the South Side of Chicago in the Grand Crossing neighborhood involving a hit-and-run.  The accident involved a collision between a motorcycle and SUV.  Following the collision the SUV left the accident scene, which was at South Chicago Avenue and Blackstone Avenue.

According to that article, the motorcyclist, a 39-year-old man, was taken to the hospital for treatment of a serious head laceration.
