Unseasonably warm weather in the Chicago area has led to a significant increase in the number of motorcyclists who have been recently riding. As discussed on the “Early-Season Motorcycle Riding Safety Issues” page, riding a motorcycle in Illinois both before and during the early motorcycle season can present various additional safety risks to the rider.
There was a fatal motorcycle crash Wednesday night (February 22, 2017) in Hanover Park.
According to Hanover Park Police, the accident happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. The accident happened as the motorcyclist was heading north on County Farm Road, and attempting to turn left (west) onto Lake Street, when the motorcycle hit a curb. The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike.
The motorcyclist was identified as John W. Baske, 57, of Des Plaines. He was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center, then airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, for treatment of his accident injuries. He died at Lutheran General Hospital.
An excerpt from the February 24, 2017 Daily Herald article (with remembrances) titled “Des Plaines man killed in motorcycle crash remembered as dedicated dad“, quoting Hanover Park police Deputy Chief Andy Johnson:
DuPage County Accident Reconstruction authorities haven’t determined Baske’s speed before the crash or reasons he hit the curb, Johnson said. Baske had just turned left onto Lake Street from County Farm Road when he crashed, Johnson said.
Additional details and possible updates concerning this fatal Illinois motorcycle crash can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Daily Herald article mentioned above as well as the February 23 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “57-year-old man killed in Hanover Park motorcycle crash.”
