Road Hazards Encountered By Motorcyclists

Road hazards are especially hazardous to motorcyclists, due to many factors, including the vulnerability of motorcycles to instability and loss of control when unanticipated road hazards are presented.

These traffic hazards can take many forms, including items sitting on roadways as well as cargo falling off of vehicles.  One example of a road hazard leading to a motorcycle accident is summarized in the September 13, 2011 post titled “Motorcyclist Injured As He Hits Urinal On Edens Expressway In Northern Chicago Suburbs.”

While there have been many instances of road hazards causing accidents in the greater Chicago area and throughout Illinois, a recent road hazard incident led to a  fatal car accident in New Jersey.

This accident, which is discussed in a variety of media sources (including the March 30, 2015 article titled “New Jersey man killed, wife hurt when tire detaches from car on I-80 in Denville“) involved a tire falling off of one vehicle and crashing into another.  The car hit by the tire then caused a multi-vehicle accident.

Additional details can be found in the article mentioned above.
