There was a fatal motorcycle accident on Illinois 161 near Belleville on Friday morning, April 1, 2016.
The accident happened on Carlyle Avenue (Illinois 161) near Shiloh Station Road, according to the Illinois State Police (ISP). The accident happened at approximately 6:00 a.m.
According to the Illinois State Police, the accident involved a motorcyclist heading west on Carlyle and a Nissan Armada SUV heading east. A collision occurred between the two vehicles when the SUV attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Shiloh Station Road in front of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, identified as Douglas Landers, 23, of O’Fallon, was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville for treatment of his accident injuries. According to the St. Clair County’s Coroner’s Office, he was declared dead at 6:42 a.m.
