Motorcyclist Dies Days After Joliet Car-Motorcycle Collision

There was a fatal motorcycle accident July 30, 2017 in Joliet.

According to Joliet Police, the accident happened as a car (a 2009 Hyundai Sonata) was pulling out of the Citgo station in the 1100 block of Jefferson Street at approximately 8:50 p.m.  As the driver (Victoria L. Martin, 27) was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Jefferson, she struck a motorcycle heading east on Jefferson.

An excerpt regarding the motorcyclist’s injuries, which included brain injuries, as seen in the Joliet Patch article of August 10, 2017, titled “Woman Who Killed Shorewood Motorcyclist Had No License:  Police“:

According to police, Phillips dropped his motorcycle, slid and crashed into the side of the car. He suffered serious brain injuries, several fractures to his body and was rushed to Saint Joseph’s hospital.

The motorcyclist, identified as Roger A. Phillips, 38, of Shorewood, died several days after the collision after being hospitalized at Presence Saint Joseph Hospital.

Another excerpt regarding the crash, with regard to the charges faced:

Booking logs at the Will County Detention Center show that 27-year-old Victoria L. Martin has remained in custody since the early morning hours of Aug. 1 on felony charges of driving with a revoked license and misdemeanor charges of driving an uninsured vehicle and operating with suspended license plates. Martin also got a traffic citation accusing her of failure to yield from a private road. She also had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear to court, police said.

As noted in the article, the accident investigation may continue for a considerable time period, either weeks or months, and additional charges with regard to the fatal accident may be forthcoming.
