The Mt. Vernon Register-News had a July 26 article titled “Injured man protests for bikers.” It details the effort of a motorcyclist, David D. Huffhire, 48, of Salem, who has been hit by teenage drivers three times, and now has embarked on a tour of Southern Illinois and Indiana to promote various changes in laws and education.
A couple of excerpts, as seen in the story:
Huffhire recently took his crumpled yellow motorcycle on a trailer around Southern Illinois and Indiana, imploring drivers to start looking for motorcyclists on the road.
During his protest around Southern Illinois and Indiana, Huffhire is calling for harsher sentencing for motorists who strike bikers.
“I would like to see more severe punishment for the person at fault, with stiffer financial liabilities and the possibility of losing their license three to six months,” he said.
